  • The state’s 295 school districts employ more than 100,000 people and serve over 1 million students
  • The state spends over $12 Billion annually for K-12, about 44% of the total state budget
  • Enrollment in Washington’s 295 school districts ranges from 5 to 45,143 students
  • Average Washington per-pupil spending including capital and pension costs is $12,597
  • Per-pupil general fund spending ranges from $6,469 to $47,835
  • According to the National Education Association’s formula, states spend between $7,700 and over $21,000 per-pupil. Vermont is the highest and Nevada is the lowest. The average is $12,182.
  • Washington ranks just below the national average at $12,133 compared to other states.
